Young Virtuosi is an exciting new celebration of young and scintillating music talent all set against the background of the valley of the Cougain, a river in Aude, Languedoc Roussillon, an idyllic and untouched corner of Southern France. Young Virtuosi started with two concerts in the medieval village of Castelreng and the nearby town of Limoux in 2008. In 2011, Young Virtuosi created with the support of the local mayors and community the Festival de la Vallée du Cougain to provide a unique opportunity to showcase exceptional and international young artists, and offer the artists themselves crucial and potentially career-defining performance experience, as they pursue varied and global careers as soloists, chamber musicians and orchestral players. The festival gives the ‘next generation’ of global musical talent the chance to gather together, rehearse and share ideas and inspiration, culminating in a special series of concerts in medieval churches and picturesque villages along the valley.
2015 is our eighth year and the festival has expanded to present seven concerts in La Digne d’Amont,Saint-Couat-du-Razès, Ajac, la Digne d’Aval, Castelreng as well as the town of Limoux where the Cougain joins the Aude River, we are adding an additional concert at Alet-les-Bains this year because of popular request. The festival is as special for its audience members as it is for the performers. These concerts will showcase not only the genius of great repertoire and composers, but also a fresh, vibrant and utterly committed style of playing which is the hallmark of the ensemble’s youth and virtuosity.
